What is pump head and why it’s important?

The head of a heating pump is not as easily explained in one sentence as you might think – or maybe it is? Here is a definition attempt from Wikipedia:

“In fluid dynamics, Total Dynamic Head (TDH) is the total equivalent height that a fluid is to be pumped, taking into account friction losses in the pipe.” Total dynamic head – Wikipedia

I think this definition is a bit confusing and therefore I would like to explain the term “head” for pumps a bit easier.

How do Thermostatic Radiator Valves Work?

In this article I will explain to you how a thermostat, which is also called a thermostatic valve or thermostatic radiator valve, works, is constructed and what the differences are between conventional and electronic thermostats.

Important: However, first of all, it is necessary to make a differentiation for the term “thermostatic valve”, because a thermostatic valve consists of two components: the thermostatic head and the radiator valve.

How does a heating system with circulating pump work?

In this short article I explain what a heating system with circulating pump is, how it works and what its advantages and disadvantages are. The most important feature of a heating system with circulating pump is the use of a pump to transport water in the heating system. An alternative heating system is gravity heating.

Heating system with circulating pump

In a heating system with circulating pump, the heating water is forced to circulate in a heating circuit with the help of a circulation pump. The circulation pump can be installed in the flow pipe (FP) or in the return pipe (RP). However, it has become generally accepted to install the pump in the flow pipe. If you can’t imagine a circulating pump, you will find a modern circulation pump in Fig. 1.

What is a Direct Vent System?

In this article I’ll explain to you what a Direct Vent System is. A Direct Vent System is a chimney or an exhaust pipe with two parallel flow channels (double-pipe flue). The hot exhaust gas of the fireplace is discharged over the inner channel and fresh air supplies the heater simultaneously with combustion air over the outside channel.
